Viewing calls in Google AdWords
Call Tracking allows you to display your inbound phone calls coming from AdWords as conversions on your AdWords dashboard. Then, you can see how many calls are driving your campaigns, announces and keywords from AdWords.
Required: To view your inbound calls in Google AdWords:
- You have to use Dynamic Number Insertion (DNI) by Web session, with a pool of tracking numbers;
- Your Google AdWords account must be linked with Google Analytics;
- Auto-tagging must be turned on in your Google AdWords account.
First, in order to set one or more inbound calls from the same visitor as a conversion, you need to configure a goal completion in Google Analytics. In this article, you can read about how to set a goal in Google Analytics.
At this point, Google Analytics is a milestone between Call Tracking and Google AdWords. With DNI by Web session, Call Tracking saves the Google Click ID (gclid) of each visitor on your website. When a visitor makes a call, his gclid is sent to Google Analytics with the call data to form an event, which allows AdWords to recognize the call as a conversion.
The next step is to import this goal completion in Google Analytics as a conversion in Google AdWords, so you can view your calls as conversions in AdWords.
Here is how to proceed:
1. Get in the Tools tab in Google AdWords;
2. Click Conversions in the drop-down menu;
3. Click on the ” + “ sign on the left to add a conversion;
4. Select the Import option;
5. Select Google Analytics and click Continue;
6. Select the Google Analytics goals to import;
7. Click Import and continue;
Now, your Google Analytics goals are imported as conversions in Google AdWords. Here, a goal completion means an incoming phone call on a tracking number linked to AdWords.
